I know it looks like I've been hanging out at the beach all summer long, but behind-the-scenes...it has been much different. Summer is always a busy time, and almost every free moment I've had has been used for something other than being outdoors. It's important to seize the moment when you get a chance.
So when your job sends you to Hawaii, you better take advantage of it. I hit the North Shore of Oahu almost every evening, and searched for something I haven't seen before. I was lucky enough to find this spot while at Kawela Bay. I know I'm not the only photographer to visit here, but when I made this photograph it was just me and a few fishermen, and maybe three other people. This turned out to be one of the best sunsets while I was on the island, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.
If you're planning to visit Oahu anytime soon, put Kawela Bay on your "to-visit" list. It's a little out of the way, but worth the trip for some extra privacy. Also, there is a really cool Banyan tree on the path to the beach...you'll know it when you see it.
